An ID system is used to record attendance.
The school motto is "Semper Optime, Always the best".
The school colours are navy blue and white. Gold is also a school colour but it is not used often within the school uniform.
The winter uniform consists of navy blue pants, a white blouse shirt, a school jumper or jacket, white socks and black leather school shoes. The summer uniform consists of a blue checkered dress or checkered shorts, white stockings or socks and black leather school shoes.
The sport uniform is a white polo shirt with a blue collar and the school logo on the top corner of the front of the shirt, navy blue shorts with the letters BGHS on the side or navy blue pants, white socks and white sneakers or joggers.
The senior uniform (worn only in years 11 and 12) consists of a white school blouse, a blue checkered skirt (kneelength), white socks and black leather school shoes. A hat is also available although it is not compulsory to buy it.
Bankstown Girls' High School performs outstandingly in the HSC with girls receiving band 6s in all their courses. The highest UAI in 2008 was 99.3.
Students are allocated to a house when they enter BGHS according to their surnames. There are four houses which students compete under for the Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals:
Freeman (red) Sauvage (blue) Jackson (green) O'Neil (yellow)
Over the years, Freeman and O'Neill have had a fierce rivalry, with each house winning by the nearest of margins and points, in athletics and swimming carnivals. The house names were formed in 2001 by the SRC.
The BGHS has a Student Representative Council, as well as prefects, and a newsletter called the Buzz.
Students have the option to participate in athletics, sporting teams, debating, public speaking, student ambassdor programs, math competitions, science competitions, anime club, dance and choir.
